We will host the 2021 Virtual State Symposium with asynchronous videos, viewable from May 10th to May 16th.  Attendees will have access to a total of 3 EBP CEUs & 3 CEUs. Once the videos are viewed attendees will complete a quiz for each CE watched and will also complete a program/speaker survey to obtain their certifications.

Also on Wednesday, May 12th at 10am we will have a live CE event entitled "Medical Timeouts" presented by Dr. Jim Kyle followed by a DCATA Business Meeting. His presentation will be recorded and will also be available to view asynchronously after the live event.

Office-Based Follow Up Management & Rehabilitation of Persistent Post Concussion Symptoms (PPCS)

Presented by: Steve Cole


At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:

1)     Identify specific post-concussion disorders (PCDs) caused by impairments in global brain metabolism (Physiologic PCD) or neurological sub-system dysfunction (Vestibulo-ocular PCD and Cervicogenic PCD).

2)     Distinguish the features of each dysfunction through clinical history, physical examination and treadmill exercise testing.

3)     Use the current tools available to appropriately evaluate a concussion.

4)     Treat a concussion while symptomatic and how to guide a return to academic and athletic activities.

5)     Initiate and conduct a comprehensive, progressive screening and evaluation of a patient with PCD.

6)     Implement a targeted vestibular rehabilitation and visual-oculomotor therapies for PPCS utilizing an active, expose-recover approach to reduce impairment and symptoms.

Risk Management & Emergency & Crisis Preparedness in Sports Medicine

1)     Identify & discuss the current NATA and other recommendations regarding the emergency action planning & catastrophic & crisis management planning.

2)     Identify & discuss how a pre-hospital interdisciplinary healthcare team works collaboratively to improve patient outcomes.

3)     Discuss risk management, catastrophic injury planning, & crisis management principles.

4)     Identify & discuss the START triage system Describe effective pre-, during, & post- strategies for the management of a catastrophic injury

5)     Identify the role(s), characteristics, indications, contraindications, and precautions for managing the entire scene by implementing a triage system in a crisis situation.

6)     Demonstrate the proper sequence and implementation of critical decision-making skills and the current evidence.
